Programs & Scholarships for Columbia Valley Youth
Lake Windermere Rod and Gun
The Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club offers a variety of FREE programs and events to encourage Columbia Valley children and teens to pursue outdoor activities, including:
- children’s air rifle program
- family-friendly fishing events
- ice fishing hut rentals (no charge)
- annual “largest fish” contest
- archery practice sessions
The Club also offers an annual scholarship to a graduating DTSS student.
Shooting
Children’s Air Rifle Program
The Club offers an educational and fun air rifle program to all Valley youth (ages 5-15) at no charge.
From January through March, youth are taught how to handle a gun, marksmanship, and proper firearm safety.
These sessions usually run in the evening, from 7-9pm in a large, indoor space.

Fishing
Family-friendly fishing events in the Columbia Valley
The Club hosts family fishing days every year, providing equipment and personal instruction:
- January: Family Fishing Adventure Day (members only), Lake Windermere.
- February: Family Fishing Adventure Day (members & non-members), Lake Lillian.
- June (Father’s Day): BC Family Fishing Weekend (members & non-members), Lake Lillian.

Ice fishing huts available to members
The Club maintains two ice fishing huts for member use: one on Lake Windermere, and one on Lake Lillian. These huts are equipped with wood stoves.

Annual “largest fish” contest
Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club members of all ages and levels are invited to enter their largest catches in the Club’s annual fishing awards competition. For more details, click here.
Archery
Archery range
The Club often offers assistance, unofficial training and the use of club equipment on designated days and times at the archery range in the spring and summer to encourage beginner archers. For more information, please contact Time Baes at archery@lwdrodgun.com.
Scholarships
The Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club offers an annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating student of DTSS (our local high school) for the best essay on a topic related to wildlife, conservation and/or the environment.
This scholarship is open to graduating students living in Canal Flats, Fairmont Hot Springs, Invermere, Wilmer, Panorama, Radium Hot Springs, Edgewater, and elsewhere in the Columbia Valley Regional District.
