The Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club has operated the Rauch Homestead Shooting Range on the Horsethief Creek Forest Service Road since 1986. The archery range, shooting range and campground are open to all, with some restrictions.

Please note that the range is sometimes closed to the public in order to host corporate or special events. To check that the range is open, contact us info@lwdrodgun.com.

As we are heading into the hunting season, this Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is the last evening that someone will be at the archery static range to give assistance or access to the rental equipment. The static range will stay open for users who have their own equipment.

What can I do at the range?
  • Archery (target practice & walking course).
  • Bench rest small-bore and center-fire rifle shooting.
  • Handgun shooting.
  • Shotgun sports: trap, skeet, sporting clays, Informal 5-Stand, FITASC.
  • Camping. (Available to Club members and event attendees. User-maintained, with outhouses, picnic tables, gravel sites and fire rings. There is no water, septic or electricity. First come, first served.)
Who can use the range?

The range is open to everyone. Many areas are wheelchair accessible.

Please note that the range is sometimes closed to the public in order to host corporate or special events. To check that the range is open, contact info@lwdrodgun.com.

What are the safety rules for the range?

All users must read and follow the safety rules posted at the range. The Club has established and abides by recognized safety rules for all shooting disciplines. Those using the range facilities are required to follow these regulations.

The Club reserves the right to ask anyone acting in an unsafe manner to leave the premises.

Our current inspection report states that “the Club maintains a well-organized range complex and there is minimal risk to persons or property when firearms are discharged in accordance with the Club’s posted rules”.

What does it cost to use the range?

Archery: $4/day for members of the Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club. The fee for non-members is $10/day. This cost includes the static archery range and the 3D courses. A bow and arrows can be rented for $10/day.

Shooting range: TBC. (no charge)

Shotgun sports: A round of 25 targets costs $7. A $100 shoot card is good for 17 rounds. (This cost may change depending on the cost of clay targets.)

Campground: No charge at the range for Club members and event attendees, on a first come, first served basis.

Part or all of the range facilities can be reserved for special events (e.g. weddings, training). For a facility rental quote, please contact Vic at clays@lwdrodgun.com. Instruction and equipment may be available on request.

Where is the range?

The Columbia Valley’s archery and shooting range is located 5.5 kilometres west of Radium Hot Springs, BC.

At the Radium Hot Springs roundabout, exit west off of Highway 93/95. Just prior to the sawmill, turn left onto Forster’s Landing Road. Cross the railway tracks and the river. After crossing the second bridge, remain on the main road: do not take the left turn onto a private drive at the 1.9km point. Proceed up the hill on the main road. At the 2.8km point, take the left fork. The Range is located at 5.5 km on the left hand side. There is a large sign and cattleguard at the entrance.

How is the range funded?

The Club manages and maintains the facility through user fees, volunteer labour, donations and fundraisers.
